If you want to make money online with a blog, the one thing you’re going to need is content. This means, over time, you will be writing a great deal of articles. No matter what your blog is about, your readers will expect professionally written content to some extent. Don’t mistake this for a lesson in grammar. A great article is sometimes one that is written in a style as if two friends were sitting around having a casual conversation. However, there is one key element you must achieve and that is to spark your readers interest and keep it. Here are a few tips to help you accomplish this task and create great content that will keep your readers coming back for more.
Know What You’re Talking About
When you write an article, you are, in a sense, establishing yourself as an expert in your field. Unless you clearly state that your post is only your opinion, you are suggesting to your readers that you are authority on the subject and that people should trust your word. Because of this, it is extremely important that you do not put incorrect or misleading information into your posts. You should always double check your sources. Making a mistake like this can look very bad on you, especially when somebody catches it and calls you out on the matter.
Understand Your Market
Who are you writing for? When you think about any kind of writing at all, you need to think about your audience and you need to keep in mind how you talk to them. For instance, if you are writing for retirees, there is a good chance that you would be writing in a different style than if you were writing for teens. Are you’re readers general consumers or IT professionals? Keep your audience in mind and remember that you should always think about how to please them and how to get their attention.
Let Your Readers Get To Know You
The more that your reader can empathize with you and really feel what you are doing, the more he or she will want to keep reading. Think about how you will draw your reader in, and think about what they are looking for. The more that you can show your readers that you’re just like them and that you have a great deal in common, the more they will hang around to hear what it is you have to say.
Back Off The Hard Sale
If you are writing an article to promote a product or service, you need to make sure that you’re covering your subject from an informative standpoint. If your readers feel that you are simply trying to sell them something, rather than giving them valuable information, they won”t take you seriously at all. Discuss the product and wait until the very end of the article before you link to their website or display their advertising banner.
Don’t Just Talk … Listen
If you intend on keeping your audience then you need to write about what they’re interested in. Keep an eye on popular posts topics. What articles are getting the most comments? Where are your inbound links pointing at? Are you using the “quick n easy” default statistics app provided by your web host? If you answered yes … it’s time to beef things up. Professional stat apps can not only show you how much traffic you received, they can tell you where they came from, how long they stayed, what pages they read, what areas of your site they clicked their mouse on, did their visit convert into a sale, the list goes on and on.
Follow these tips and do your best to implement them in your next article. Your readers are sure to appreciate you for it.
